Working principle of Bluetooth technology

In order to transmit signals between two disconnected devices, these electronic devices all have an antenna connected to the surface of the antenna circuit board, which transmits the received signal to the board, where it is processed and output. The working principle of Bluetooth is very simple and can be roughly divided into three levels to understand: master-slave relationship, transmission process and data transmission.

The master-slave relationship of Bluetooth communication:

  • One side of the electronic device for data transmission is the master role, and the other side is the slave role
  • To turn on Bluetooth, both roles must be specified, and the search starts from the main role
  • Up to 7 devices can be connected
  • The role relationship is not absolute, usually the sender of the signal is considered to be the main role
 

Bluetooth call process:

  • Devices that match each other require a PIN code
  • The slave device needs to obtain the trust information of the master device
  • Both devices that have been matched can initiate a chain building request
  • Both devices can initiate a disconnection request
 

Data transmission

  • The electronic device is pre-set with two pairing information
  • The slave device is silent: it can only communicate with the master device and cannot be found by other devices
  • Slave device development status: it can be searched by the master device and can establish links with other devices

Composition of Bluetooth PCBA

There are two inductors are connected on the PCBA board that varies the impedance of the antenna to provide good receiving and transmission of the signal.  There are 4 pinouts configured on the circuit board which are state, Enable, communication, and power supply. With these pins, there are different components such as resistance diodes and capacitors. There some other parts of PCB boards are voltage regulators, Ics, and crystal clocks. Let’s take the current most mainstream CSR Bluetooth module 86XX series as an example, its composition is as follows:

  • Bluetooth SOC, (Bluetooth chip such as CS8635)
  • 16MHz to 32MHz Clock Crystal
  • RF bandpass filter + ANT (ceramic antenna or PCB antenna)
  • SMPS Power Inductors
  • Filter capacitor
  • Chips for extended storage such as EEPROM or SPI FLASH
  • 4-layer PCB board (all the above electronic components need to be mounted on the PCB board)

Applications of Bluetooth PCBA

Multimedia Transfer

Bluetooth’s connection helps to transfer the song and videos very easily. Any source that transfers and gets the audio and video data is equipped with Bluetooth boards. Your mobile phones also have these boards, so you can play songs and videos and transfer to other Bluetooth devices. For audio and voice signal transmission, Bluetooth boards are part of the circuit used in earphones. Bluetooth’s boards are the main component that helps to perform the audio signal transmission to your headset, and you can listen to different songs. The work of the PCBA of the Bluetooth headset is roughly as follows:

  • The decoding chip in the PCBA decodes the audio file, and after the decoding is completed, digital signals of 0 and 1 are generated, and these digital signals are sent to the headset through the Bluetooth antenna
  • After the Bluetooth headset receives the digital signal, the digital signal is converted into audio through the digital-to-analog conversion PCBA chip inside the headset
  • The analog signal is amplified by the signal amplification chip on the headphone PCBA
  • The Bluetooth headset receives the amplified signal and emits sound

Bluetooth keyboard and mouse

With the advancement of technology, the use of Bluetooth keyboards and mice by technology-based enterprises has increased year by year. Different types of Bluetooth keyboard and mouse uses Bluetooth PCBA boards to make connections with computer, and we can perform our task on computers more conveniently.  While infra-red frequency was also used to perform wireless communication, but Bluetooth technology is undoubtedly the best way to connect wirelessly. 

We mentioned above that “Bluetooth is not equal to wireless”, here we will use Bluetooth keyboard and wireless keyboard as an example to explain the difference between the two.

Different connection methods:

Bluetooth keyboard: use the Bluetooth transmission protocol for data transmission, and perform Bluetooth communication within the effective range of the Bluetooth PCBA (within 10m).

Wireless keyboards: Transmit signals to specific electronic devices via infrared technology or radio waves. Bluetooth technology is an upgrade of infrared technology.

Different signal reception methods:

Bluetooth keyboard: Receive and send signals through the Bluetooth PCBA antenna installed inside the device.

Wireless keyboard: Receives signals through a receiver mounted outside the device.

Bluetooth Speakers

As Bluetooth speakers have become very popular to upgrade the experience, their market share has become dominant. The operation of Bluetooth speakers is the same as Bluetooth. The Bluetooth PCBA is placed in the speaker, mainly on the main circuit board that regulates all operation of Bluetooth speaker.

If someone opens the speaker to view the Bluetooth board then you will come to know that different components exist such as audio amplifiers, voltage stable, and charger. On the other side of the board, there are volume control buttons, an on and off buttons and a microphone for voice calls.  Some other components are a speaker, battery, and secondary circuit board that give power to USB, a power button, and LEDs.

For the creation of a Bluetooth network on the board, there is IC configured with the Bluetooth PCBs. This IC can be used for any audio device, such as a Bluetooth speaker. Bluetooth module can support numerous functions such as Bluetooth 4.0, Lin in audio wireless stereo audio, etc.

Another main part of the Bluetooth speaker is an antenna that sends and received data through the Bluetooth board. The antenna has two inductors L4 and L6 that control the operation of the antenna.

Easy layout

In this era of mobile phones, the speakers connected through the Bluetooth PCBA of mobile phones make young people love them. Different from traditional speakers, it has a Bluetooth audio PCBA in its internal structure, which enables it to be wirelessly connected, allowing it to be placed anywhere in the home and can also be carried around.

Poor battery life

As the lithium battery technology has developed to the bottleneck period, the battery life of the Bluetooth speaker with its small size and lightness as its biggest selling point is unsatisfactory. Bluetooth PCBA Module

The simple technique to configure Bluetooth function in the devices is through the use of Bluetooth modules. It is a PCBA board with integrated Bluetooth function for wireless network communication. Bluetooth Transmitter Circuit Board

As the name suggests, it is a hardware device for the Bluetooth signal transmitter, which is a signal transmission module. When we plug in a Bluetooth transmitter for electronic products such as desktop computers and TVs that do not have Bluetooth functions, it can become a Bluetooth product. If you are listening to the song on a Bluetooth speaker that gets the audio from the phone that is coming through the Bluetooth transmitter board. The sensor data is controlled by the transmitter to make an easy transmission. This board is also configured with a recyclable battery and charging system.

There are 3 main parts of the Bluetooth transmitter circuit that are sensor data, regulated voltage, and wireless transmission. The regulated voltage is used for delivering power to the sensor circuit, Bluetooth transmitter, and controllers. The data goes into the Bluetooth transmitter called sensor data which has values of 1, 2, 3, or 4.

The combination of electrical and programming functions is the last part of wireless communication. It sends the Bluetooth protocols through the air to the required module. The Bluetooth transmitter also helps to make connections with close existing devices. There is an LED on the Bluetooth circuit board that indicates the on and off status of the device. As power is provided to the transmitter, make a connection to an easily accessible device.

The device is on standby mode till the signal is given to the transmitter. There is a recycled battery used to provide power without interruption.  In some devices, there is a lithium-ion battery used for long operations.

On the Bluetooth transmitter circuit board, there is a port for charging, a voltage variation amplifier, and Bluetooth. This transmitter has a play and volume control button to regulate the music.

Bluetooth Receiver Circuit Board

A Bluetooth receiver is used to get the signal from the Bluetooth-supported device and send it to other modules. Every device has a Bluetooth receiver system in the circuit to control the operation. There is a rechargeable battery used that must be changed after some time interval. In some devices, there is a lithium-ion battery used that enhances the operation time in single charging. There is a battery configured with the board to avoid overcharging and discharging the battery.

There is an antenna installed on the Bluetooth circuit board that gets the signal from the phone or Bluetooth devices.  The structure of the board is like the Bluetooth speaker circuit and has ic configured on board. To handle the amplifier system there is an auxiliary output exists on the board. To provide the fine operation there is an amplifier and voltage regulator installed on the board. Bluetooth receiver can be easily gotten from a local electronic shop that comes with different components according to use.
